Lots
to do
This October!

October is always a busy month for me.
On top of the usual business and family stuff that attempts to compact
two month's worth of commitments into one month's time, I celebrate
a birthday in October (number 48, thank you) and my wife and I have
an anniversary...25 years this month (maybe I should buy a card?).
Throw in a visit to see our college freshman daughter in NYC, and
I'm thinking that my dance card is pretty full.
...
Busy is good when one considers the alternative...so
this is not to complain. Like a lot of members, MMAC figures large
in my schedule as I still find time to fly and thoroughly enjoy
the last few weeks of good weather. Two club events occur in October,
and both are a great opportunity to cash in on what our hobby has
to offer.

MMAC member Scott Annis shows off his handiwork...a custom
made sign holder for our upcoming Plains Park Demonstration
Event In Milford. Thanks, Scott!

If I meet my deadline, you'll be reading
this BEFORE the MMAC Demonstration Day at Plains Park in Milford
on Sunday, October 8. This event started out as a one-time chance
to show off the hobby to kids that thought their only after-school
options were soccer, football, gymnastics and dirt bikes. Now in
our third year, we've kept the same focus, but we've expanded the
scope to make it a true club fun-fly...a chance to show off those
skills that you've been sharpening all summer long. We've planned
buddy box training for the audience, special demonstrations by some
select members and a few surprises that will be a real kick for
both members and the audience alike. We've worked hard the past
few weeks to guarantee a bigger crowd than last year, so all we
really need to make the day a true success is a good turn out from
our own members! Make a point to stop by for all or part of the
day. Bring a plane, come to help out or come to watch...just be
sure to set aside a couple of hours in your busy schedule
to be there.
Check out the "Events" link on the club
website main menu for all the details!
...
At the end of the month, members and their
families can enjoy the 2006 MMAC Annual Banquet at the Coachmen's
Lodge in Bellingham on Sunday evening, October 29. This year
we celebrate our 27th season with great food and drink, good conversation,
live music, a fantastic raffle and other surprises. In addition
to the Tom Kempf Founder's Award, we'll be drawing the winner of
our Futaba 9 channel radio raffle. Plus, it's darn fun to see what
we all look like when not wearing old jeans, sunglasses and hats!
...
Banquet reservation forms have been distributed
to everyone via the mail, but feel free to call or email me if you've
misplaced yours. Tickets are $27 per person and we ask that you
have your reservation in the mail by October 16...which is coming
up fast.
...
So, as you can see, even though the days
are getting cooler our club schedule is heating up! Here's to a
great month of flying, friends and fun!
And, as always...
Keep up your airspeed!

This
Month's Fuel Winner
This fresh and smiling
face belongs to Mike Marinucci of Medway...Vinny's nephew and this
month's lucky winner of the gallon of fuel at the September 26 club
meeting.
...
This breaks the long standing series of raffle
winners being our club treasurer...both Dave Seale or acting treasurer
Bill Costello. With Vinny's help, we're sure that this gallon will
be put to good use.
...
Congratulations,
Mike!

Other than a pesky cross-wind that seems to show up at the most
"interesting" times, Bill Martin Airfield continues to
be in excellent shape..
...
As mentioned last month, members are
encouraged to bring along a weedwacker in their car or van and edge
around the pilot stations, pits and the field signs. Another great
way to help out would be to pack a trash bag and empty the rubbish
bucket if it looks like it needs it. Keeping our field neat is easy
to do and helps to make it a pleasant place to fly....
