Club Meeting
March 27, 2007
|
Jim McCoy brought the meeting to order at 7:30. A motion to accept
the February secretary's report as stated in the March 2007 Yankee
Flyer was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The current membership count stands at 46.
...
I gave an update
on the club re-charter process with the AMA along with the special
use permit application process with the Commonwealth. At the time
of the meeting all of the applications had been submitted to both
the AMA and state. To complete the processes the AMA needed to get
us our insurance certificate. As of April 1st I have received our
new charter and insurance certificate from the AMA along with the
special use permit for the field in Medfield from the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. We are
good for another year of flying pleasure.

| We were happy to see former MMAC Secretary,
Dave Petruska and his son Stephen attending the March meeting. |
...
The treasurer's
report was given by Dave Seale. We had an ending balance of $3,184.72
with income of $296.78 and expense of $337.62 A motion to accept
the treasurer's report was made and seconded. The motion passed
unanimously.

The Medfield
flying field condition was reported to be wet and soft in the parking
area. The field itself is in good shape. The access road is partially
covered with water but not deep enough to make it impassable. Jim
stated that the club would be investing some resources this year
to improve the access road. A cleanup & repair day will be scheduled.
...
Bill Costello
gave an update on the engine noise awareness program. He has measured
the noise level of a few planes at the field to work out the details
of the program. He will be keeping a log of all planes that are
tested and will provide a sticker for those planes that have been
tested. It is not required that club members submit their planes
for testing. This is only an awareness program. Contact Bill to
make arrangements to get your plane's noise level measured.
Upcoming summer events at the Medfield flying field:
June 10 - CRRC Family Day
June 23 - MMAC Fun Fly (Bill Costello, CD)
Late July / Early August - MMAC Fun Fly (Dave Eaton, CD)

MMAC Chief Instructor, Bill Lloyd, explains
some basic equipment requirements for the newer
pilots in the club.
|
Bill Lloyd reviewed requirements for flyers, both beginner and
experienced, before coming to the field:
- Charge your batteries the night before.
- In addition to your plane have, at a minimum: fuel, fuel pump,
glow heater, and plane restraint.
- Affix your name and contact information to the inside of your
plane.
- Have a frequency pin that has the channel number of your transmitter
and pilot name on it. Please note that the frequency board has
channels 11 through 33 on the left and 34 through 60 on the right
if you want to have your frequency pin text facing up when it
is clipped to the board.
- Label your transmitter with the channel number.
- Adjust your engine and throttle advance so that the engine can
be shut off from the transmitter.
- Insure that the plane's control surfaces move in the proper
direction relative to the stick movement.
- Be patient with your instructor. He may have more than one student
that he is working with.
- For new flyers, don't expect to fly your plane the first time
you come to the field. Your instructor will fly it first to insure
that trimmed properly and that there are no issues with controlling
it.
Bill Lloyd also presented "Bill's Cheap Tool" of the month. He
reuses plastic food containers and plastic can lids for various
uses around the shop. Coffee can lids can be used to mix epoxy on.
Dried epoxy can be removed by peeling it off the cover. Bill also
uses small plastic containers to hold parts.

Due to a scheduling
conflict with the American Legion, the next club meeting has been
changed to Wednesday, April 25th. The meeting adjourned at 8:20
and was followed by the raffle.

Roger Gilman
