Other than some persistent puddles left behind from the high river
level, access into the field is now quite passable. We're still
hoping to make repairs to the road once the water completely recedes.
Some minor instances of vandalism have occurred, but for the most
part our facilities are pretty much as we left them in the fall.
...
The field itself has been mowed a couple of
times and is in great shape. Our crackerjack team of groundskeepers
have already been on the job...fertilizing the runway and pilot
stations on May 8. We'll be rolling and seeding as soon as we can.

A few instances of radio interference have
been reported, however it is random and the causes are inconclusive.
Please be sure to report any frequency issues to a board member
as soon as you can. In addition, I'd like to remind every member
to strictly adhere to the established frequency pin system as that's
our best defense against accidental shoot-downs. It's also really
helpful to use the antenna mounted frequency numbers that come with
your radio to identify the channel you're utilizing. Good communication
and cooperation is extremely important.

Bill Costello has started his voluntary engine
noise level monitoring. This program is meant to establish a baseline
for our models and to fulfill a missing component for our application
to AMA Gold Club status. Of the several planes sampled thus far,
everyone is well within the recommended 96db range.

Several Winter Project aircraft have made
their Bill Martin Airfield debut over the past couple of weeks.
Bill Lloyd has flown his SIG Somethin' Extra several
times and reports that he's very pleased with it's performance.
Dave Seale is working the bugs out of his Great Planes
Super Sportster...a clean-looking ship that is his first electric
powered aircraft. Bill Costello is still fine-tuning the
control throws and engine on his Balsa USA Phaeton...a hefty
biplane which took first place honors in the sport category (we're
all anxiously waiting to see his Kellett Autogyro make an
appearance). Best of Show winner, Dave O'Hanian's electric
Liberty Sport biplane made a brief hop last week. Dave is making
incidence adjustments to the upper wing before flying his beautiful
model.

New member, Charlie Anamateros, brought
his nicely built Great Planes PT-40 for it's first check
flight recently. Instructors Bill Lloyd and Roger Gilman both worked
with Charlie to make some needed adjustments prior to Roger test
flying the model. Although we discovered it was quite tail heavy,
Roger landed the plane safely and Charlie will correct the problem
before making another flight.
NOTE: MMAC members are encouraged to send photos of their
projects to be included in future issues of The Yankee Flyer.
Please email them to Jim McCoy at mccoygroup@comcast.net
along with a brief description of the plane.
