Clean-up Day this Saturday
Winter Project Night

Spring has finally arrived after a long winter.
I am looking forward to the MMAC clean-up day at Bill Martin Airfield this Saturday, April 19 and some flying after all the work is completed.
... I would like to thank Mike Mauricio for volunteering to build two new pilot stands that I am sure will be used by everyone.
... I have been in contact with four other clubs for our first Inter-Club Fly-In at the South Shore Radio Control Club field on June 1st. There has been a lot of interest in this event and it should be a great opportunity to meet members from other clubs that share our common interests.
... Winter Project Night is upon us at the April 29 meeting. I am looking forward to seeing the finished products of a lot of long hours in the shop. The raffle for the World Models Chipmunk will be held and the lucky winner can return home and start all over again.
... Just a reminder if you do not have a new gate key, please see Brad at the April meeting.

Height is your friend...

Bill O'Donnell
2008 MMAC President

REMEMBER:
Field clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, April 19. We have a fair amount of work to do...so please set aside a couple of hours to help out so the work goes quicker. PLUS, bring a plane to celebrate a job well done!

Member Update...

As of the first of April, the MMAC club roster stood at 52 members with Petter Frieberg of Wellesley and Kevin Gregory of Milford being the latest to join. There are still several long-time club members who are conspicuously absent...so get your applications is because with the weather getting better, you'll want to be flying soon!

Secretary Heading
Club Meeting
March 25, 2008

The meeting was brought to order by club president Bill O’Donnell.
A motion to accept the February secretary’s report as stated in the March 2008 Yankee Flyer was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The treasurer’s report was read by Dave Seale.

Balance $2,145.11... Income $209.94... Expense $2,346.52

Dave opened a CD and deposited $2,000 from the checking account into it. He also managed to update our checking account with the bank so that we no longer have to pay bank fees. Great job Dave. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

Secretary Roger Gilman and Vice President
Brad Kaye help Jack Squier set up for the
March meeting raffle.

... Bill O’Donnell announced that June 1st is the date for the multi-club fly-in. This will be held at the South Shore Radio Control Club flying field. Bill Lloyd suggested that all participants wear a “Hello my name is…” tag. Dave Seale has a roll left over from the banquet and he will supply them for the fun fly.
... The field cleanup day is scheduled for April 19th. Bring your shovel, rake and wheel barrow if you can fit it in. Start time is 9:00 AM.
... Bill Costello announced that June 21st is the date for the first club fun fly of 2008. Stay tuned for further details.
... Mike Mauricio volunteered to build two more pilot stands like "Jack’s Rack" if the club would purchase the material.  The material cost estimate is $40 per stand. He has also asked for help with assembling them at the field. A motion was made and seconded to reimburse Mike for the material cost to make two pilot stands. The motion passed unanimously.
... I announced that the club has received its new AMA charter and has obtained from the Massachusetts DCR a special use permit for the Medfield flying field. The permit runs from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009.
... This is a reminder that the club is raffling a World Models Chipmunk 90-S ARF.  Tickets are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. Contact Brad Kaye if you want to purchase tickets. The winner will be drawn at Winter Projects Night in April. The model has been generously donated to the club by Joe Candela at Creative Hobbies in Mendon (www.creativehobbies.net ).

The next meeting is April 29, 2008 @ 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall in Millis.  This meeting is also Winter Projects Night.

Regards,
Roger Gilman
MMAC Secretary

FuelMarch Fuel Winner!

You're not experiencing deja vu...well, not exactly!
... Longtime Yankee Flyer readers may realize just how many times member Bill Costello is the winner of the coveted first raffle ticket pulled at the club meeting. In fact, he's almost as lucky at our meeting raffle as Bill O'Donnell is at raffles at other clubs!
... This is Bill's first back-to-back win in a while, but I'm sure that it won't be his last.

Congratulations, Bill!

Photo of the Month

waterskiing

Our Photo of the Month for April was sent to me by MMAC member David O'Hanian as part of a PowerPoint titled Awesome Air Photos. There was quite a selection to choose from...and it was quite difficult to decide. This photo won out mainly because it reminded me of the popular and difficult limbo contests at our own fun fly events. If this were an AMA sanctioned demonstration, I would expect that the two "pole holders" would be required to wear hard hats at least! The yellow vests are stylish, but don't offer much protection...although, in this case I doubt if a hard hat would really be much of an upgrade!
... I'm not as well versed in aerobatic aircraft as some of our members, but I did some digging on the Internet and identified this as a Sukhoi Su-26 owned by the Honda Aerobatic Team most likely caught in the act while performing at an airshow in Europe.

Thanks to David for this month's photo! Remember that MMAC members may submit their nominations to mccoygroup@comcast.net.
