Multi-Club Fly-In | Secretary's Report

Photo of the Month | Club Website

Summer is Here!

I would like to thank all the members from our club for attending the Multi-Club Fly-In at the South Shore Radio Control Club in Bridgewater on June 1st. We had a total of 52 pilots from 10 clubs in Massachusetts, with our club accounting for 20% of the total. Thanks guys for your support for what turned out to be a great time!
... At a recent Board of Directors meeting we discussed the idea of building a permanent shelter at the Bill Martin Field. There are some pros and cons on this idea and I will bring it up at the June 24 meeting. I would appreciate any input from the membership on this matter. Give it some thought.
... Also brought up at the meeting was the trash problem at the field. Please try to spread the word to everyone to bring your trash home when you leave.
... Our first Club Fun Fly of the summer will be held on Saturday, June 21st. Try to attend if possible.  Bill Costello plans for a great event and the more pilots will bring out the best in competition. Weather forecast looks good. See you all Saturday.

Height is your friend...

Bill O'Donnell
2008 MMAC President

NOTE:
Don't forget that the next club meeting is scheduled to be at Bill Martin Airfield. Come as early in the day as you can and plan on bringing a plane. We'll fly until 7PM when we'll have a short business meeting. If the weather does not cooperate, we'll move back to the American Legion as usual.

First-Annual Multi-Club Fly-In a Success!

With nice weather, a great turn-out and an excellent host, who could complain? With what will most-likely be a repeat event, the first Multi-Club Fly-In was was held on Sunday, June 1 and was exactly what was advertised...a great opportunity to modelers to get together to share experience, show off a little and put faces to names. MMAC was very well represented with about 12 members both with and without planes. Although there was over 50 registered pilots, we all had a chance to fly at SSRCC's beautiful field in Bridgewater.

Left: The SSRCC shelter was a great place to get out of the sun (and rain later in the day). MMAC members Bill O'Donnell and Brad Kaye did an awesome job manning registration and the impound... they did us proud!

Although we were treated only to an engine run-up and taxi, this incredible PBY was a real attention-getter.

An old friend of MMAC, Colin Towers was on hand to catch up a bit on the goings-on at our club. Here he's prepping his large-scale P-47 for flight.

Speaking of old friends, MMAC member Ted Zaborski (right) re-connected with Norm Staples, a SSRCC member who Ted used to fly with many moons ago.

New member Steve Rivet recently received the all-important first lesson from MMAC instructor Roger Gilman...which direction is up!

Pilots in the Making!

Many new members to MMAC are seasoned pilots who have several summer's worth of experience in their logbooks. Far more, however, come to our club as new to the hobby or back after a long absence and are hoping to receive some help learning the ropes. That's where our club instructors come into play. These gentlemen give tons of time and experience to anyone who expresses interest in learning to fly an RC model aircraft. Instructors Roger Gilman, John Holcomb and John Markinac each have students at the moment.
... Anyone interested in training may check out our list of instructors via the "Contact & Links" page on our website or in the "New to the Hobby" section.

Secretary Heading
Club Meeting
May 27, 2008

The meeting was brought to order by club president Bill O’Donnell.
A motion to accept the April secretary’s report as stated in the May 2008 Yankee Flyer was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
... The treasurer’s report was read by Bill Costello for Dave Seale.  A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
... Bill O’Donnell thanked Jim McCoy for organizing and running the Winter Projects Night.
... Brad Kaye presented plaques to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers for Winter Projects Night. A great job was done by all who participated. The final standings for the night are:

Next, Dave will be Offering Rides!

Inspired by the model that Jack Squier has flown for many seasons, MMAC treasurer, Dave Seale (right), won the trophy in the sport plane category at the recent Winter Project event with this huge Flair Hannibal that he built during the colder months. Working with Bill Lloyd at the field recently, Dave was able to trim out this 90-inch wingspan beauty with only a few flights. The inverted Saito 150 tucked under that shiny aluminum cowl offers a bit of a challenge to start, so Dave has been placing the airframe upside-down in a customized foam cradle to get it running.
... Covered in red MonoKote, this big bird really looks great as it flies overhead or makes a low and slow pass by the pilot's station. After he gets a little more comfortable with the model, Dave will be accepting reservations for anyone wishing to go up for a scenic flight around Medfield!

Another video made it's way to me this month...this time from MMAC member Charlie Anamateros. Those of you that love Brad Kaye's "flying lawnmower" or the "escaped bandit" routine at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome will certainly appreciate this contribution. Just click on the link below and enjoy! But DON'T try this at home!!!

Thanks to Charlie for this month's entertainment. Remember that MMAC members may submit their nominations to mccoygroup@comcast.net.
