Happy New Year!

Winter is finally here. I would like to wish all members and their families a healthy and happy New Year. With the way the weather has been, we should have no problem flying with the skis on!

I would like to thank and welcome back for the one more year, Brad Kaye, Dave Seale, and Roger Gilman who will serve as our Board of Directors. Without this board, Jim McCoy and all our members, 2008 would not have been as successful. I'm hoping Santa was good to everyone, and that we will see some new planes at the field.

On a sad note, I was reading the Charles River Newsletter to find out that Bill Martin had recently passed away. I never had a chance to meet Bill, but from what I read, he was quite a person. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

At our next meeting on January 27, Jim McCoy will have tickets for our first 2009 raffle. With the choice of one of these three great planes, we should do well. This raffle will be open to anyone and will be drawn at April Winter Projects Night. Please try to be at the meeting on the 27th so we can get 2009 off to a great start!

Remember, height is your friend...

Bill O'Donnell
2009 MMAC President

New Renewal System for MMAC Members

Application PageIn the past, existing MMAC members would receive an application via regular mail in early December to renew their membership for the coming season. This year, we're trying something new...a downloadable application form.
... Several emails have gone out to the membership to encourage guys to navigate to the club's member renewal page. This email included a direct link to the page. Once on the web page, you can easily click on a link that automatically downloads a PDF of the 2009 MMAC application.
... Once downloaded, the member then fills out the usual information and sends the completed form and his check to club secretary, Roger Gilman.
... The response so far seems to be positive. Members can still receive an application in the mail by contacting myself or Roger (links below) and requesting one. You can also pick up one at club meetings. Members without email were sent an application in the usual manner.

Secretary Heading
Club Meeting
November 25, 2008

The meeting was brought to order by new club president Bill O’Donnell. A motion to accept the October secretary’s report as stated in the November 2008 Yankee Flyer was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The treasurer’s report was read by Dave Seale. Dave also reviewed income and expenses for 2008. For the month of November:

Balance $4918.33... Income $1973.75... Expenses $1152.06

A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made and seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
... There was a very short discussion about dues for 2009. A motion was made and seconded to keep the dues at the same amount for 2009. The motion passed unanimously. Dues for an individual adult membership are $50 with a $5 discount if dues are paid on or before the January meeting. Also, members who join after October 1st are covered for the next year.
... There was also a very short discussion about the membership cap for 2009. A motion was made and seconded not to change the membership cap for 2009. The motion passed unanimously. The cap is 100 members.
... The next plane raffle was discussed. It will be another pilot’s choice and it will be open to people outside of the club. Jim McCoy will make up the tickets. The winner will be drawn at Winter Projects Night in April.
... The next meeting is January 27, 2009 at the American Legion Hall in Millis.

Regards,
Roger Gilman

As a reminder to all members, the annual Bill Martin Airfield gate key exchange will start at the February 24 club meeting.

Photo of the Month

jackaroo

One of the nice things about choosing the Picture of the Month is that sometimes I get to post one of my own favorites...and this is one of them!

The aircraft pictured is a full-scale Thruxton Jackaroo. During the mid-1950s, the British government placed a ban on the importing of light aircraft. A small company named Jackaroo Aircraft Limited based at Thruxton Aerodrome decided to convert several surplus DeHavilland Tiger Moths into a four-seat cabin general purpose biplane in hopes of cashing-in on the rising demand for pleasure aircraft. A total of 19 such aircraft were converted before the company folded. A few were equipped with crop-dusting gear.
... Those of you that know me are aware of my soft spot for biplanes and the the Tiger Moth in particular. The Jackaroo conversion strikes me as an interesting and unusual subject to model someday.

Remember that MMAC members may submit their nominations to mccoygroup@comcast.net.
