With the days getting longer and a little warmer, it will be not be long before we are back at the field (the Charles River permitting).

Our next meeting on February 24 is Key Exchange Night. It is very important to return your old key if possible. Any new members will receive a key at the meeting. I am happy to announce that Bill Lloyd has agreed to continue to be Club Safety Officer for the coming season. He is now feeling better than ever. Thanks, Bill. Sales of tickets for Pilot’s Raffle are going well and Jim McCoy and Brad Kaye have invited other clubs to participate if they are interested.

A meeting of the Board of Directors was held in mid-February. Many topics were discussed and I will bring them up at this month’s meeting. Just a reminder that Winter Project Night is coming up fast so get that prize-winning project done on time!

Remember, height is your friend...

Bill O'Donnell
2009 MMAC President

New Renewal System for MMAC Members

Application PageIn the past, existing MMAC members would receive an application via regular mail in early December to renew their membership for the coming season. This year, we're trying something new...a downloadable application form.
... Several emails have gone out to the membership to encourage guys to navigate to the club's member renewal page. This email included a direct link to the page. Once on the web page, you can easily click on a link that automatically downloads a PDF of the 2009 MMAC application.
... Once downloaded, the member then fills out the usual information and sends the completed form and his check to club secretary, Roger Gilman.
... The response so far seems to be positive. Members can still receive an application in the mail by contacting myself or Roger (links below) and requesting one. You can also pick up one at club meetings. Members without email were sent an application in the usual manner.

Secretary Heading
Club Meeting
January 27, 2009

The meeting was brought to order by club president Bill O’Donnell. A motion to accept the November secretary’s report as stated in the January 2009 Yankee Flyer was made and seconded. The motion passed.
... The treasurer’s report was read by Dave Seale. There was no income or expenses for the month of December. For the month of January:

Balance $3975.04     Income $675     Expenses $1,350

The expense for January was the mowing fee for the 2008 season. CRRC paid half as per usual and that was the income for the month. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made and seconded. The motion passed.
... Jim McCoy explained Don Schipani’s offer to host an online MMAC forum. The consensus of those present at the meeting was favorable to the idea and Jim should take it to the next level with Don. There are many details and questions that need to be worked out with Don.
... The new plane raffle was announced. It is a pilot’s choice where the winner will choose one of three planes:

  • CAP 232 ARF donated by Joe Candela of Creative Hobbies
  • Hanger 9 4D ARF donated by Bob Rice of HobbyTown USA
  • P-51B/C Mustang Kit donated by club member Scott Annis

The raffle is open to people outside of the club. Contact VP Brad Kaye if you are interested in purchasing tickets. The winner will be drawn at Winter Project Night on April 28.
... Bill O’Donnell introduced new club member Joe Gantert to the club…welcome Joe.
... Bill O’Donnell thanked Ted Zaborski for making the membership cards again this year. Ted has been making and donating the cards to the club for many years. Ted developed a new design this year and they look great, thanks Ted.
... The annual flying field gate lock key exchange will take place at the club meeting in February. Please attend to turn in your old key and get a new key.
... Upcoming events: WRAM show on February 20 thru 22, see www.wram.org for details.
... The next meeting is February 24, 2009 at the American Legion Hall in Millis.

Regards,
Roger Gilman
MMAC Secretary

KeyGate Key Exchange
At February Meeting

As a reminder to all members, the annual Bill Martin Airfield gate key exchange will start at the February 24 club meeting.
... As per our charter with the state, we are required to switch the lock on the entrance road gate at the same time each season. This means that anyone holding a 2008 key will not be able to get access to the field after the end of February.
... Current members in good standing must return their 2008 key in order to receive a new one. This can be done at club meetings starting with 2/24 as well as contacting our club Key Master, Brad Kaye via email or at 508-962-1230 to arrange an exchange.
... Be sure to get your new key well in advance of your first trip to the field so you don't get locked out!

This month's Photo of the Month is a video of a massive turbine-powered C-17 Globemaster model that was sent along to me by former member Bob Lombard. Bob moved to "Top of the World" in Ocala, Florida a few seasons ago, but he checks in on his MMAC friends every now and then.
