The way the weather has been lately, maybe we should start selling umbrellas instead of club hats! It WILL get better...we just need to stay positive.
... Roger Gilman has informed me that he and Tyler have been working on an updated field site plan to include our proposed shelter. This is what is needed to present our shelter to the state for their approval. At present, it looks like a go. Good job, Roger and Tyler.
... In addition, I have been in contact with John Eppling, president of the Charles River Club. He and several CRRC members have expressed interest in helping with the shed’s construction. One member assisted in the construction of the Wingbusters club shelter which we are duplicating.
... Brad Kaye and I visited MMAC member John Holcomb at Newton-Wellesley Hospital recently. John seems to have improved over the past week and looks a lot better than on my previous visit. He still needs all our prayers and positive thoughts if we’re going to see him torture his models to music again soon.
... Our first fun fly of 2009 is this Saturday, June 27 with Bill Costello as CD. I am sure this will be a great time and that Bill has some good ideas for the competition to bring out our best pilot skills.
... The field is in great shape thanks to the hard work at clean up day in April.
... Our next club meeting is Tuesday June 30 at Bill Martin Airfield...weather permitting, of course.  Let’s have as good a turnout as our last meeting!

Remember, height is your friend...

Bill O'Donnell
2009 MMAC President

REMINDER: The June 30 club meeting is at Bill Martin Airfield. Come early and bring a plane to fly prior to our short business meeting at 7PM. The gate will be open for the meeting. In case of inclement weather, we'll lock the gate closed as a signal that we've moved the meeting back to the American Legion..

Video of the Month

photo

I had something else picked out for this month's Video of the Month, but when I came across this rather long video of pilot John Mohr flying his stock Stearman Kaydet at the 2008 NAS Oceana Airshow in Oceana, Virginia...I just had to share it with you guys!

John's performance is very tight to show center and most of his maneuvers are under 300 feet. I usually don't have the patience to watch an online video of this length, but this routine had me captivated the whole time. Be sure to watch at least to nine minutes or so as his "falling leaf" stall is truly incredible!
